Burra Civil Defer Meeting Schedule Announced

Local notes defer Burra Civil Defer meetings due to weather. Tentative venues include Burra North Playground on Saturday at 7 pm and Burra Playground on Sunday at 2 pm. If conditions worsen, gatherings shift to Room 81 Burra North or the Rowing Clubhouse in Burra.

Copperhouse School Social Raises Funds for Patriotic Causes

The fourth in a series of school socials was held last Saturday night in the schoolroom to raise money for Patriotic Funds and school purposes. Attendance was record, with future events planned. Head Teacher Mr Mazon thanked the musicians, MC, and attending ladies. Mr G Mioch donated kerosene. more kerosene and wood for the copper are welcomed. Final figures are not yet in. over £4 has been raised for the Prisoner of War fund. Arbour Bay will be accelerated at the School next Friday, 26 June, with a cordial invitation to parents and friends.

Country Women’s Association meets with growing crafts

The June meeting drew many members as Camouflage net-making progressed with new certificates earned. A. Bown totaled 21 nets for the month, M. V. Pearce four nets, raising month and year totals to 28 and 87 respectively. The Opportunity Shop by W A members raised £18 2 0 with donations £5 6 3.

The fortnightly meeting at Memorial Hall on June ith 40 members present. Mrs. Riggs presided. Donations included 427 16/12 to HG for the Burra and District Annual Effort. Volunteers were sought for hospital appeal work with Mrs Reed appointed. A shop opening recommendation and a collectors’ plan for June 18 were approved.

Burra Jubilee Benevolent Society Annual Meeting

Mrs A B Riggs presided at the Burra Jubilee Benevolent Society annual meeting held last Thursday. New town ministers were welcomed by the Chairman. The secretary presented the year's work AA and the treasurer balance sheet, both read and adopted. Gratitude was expressed for donations and parcels, with special thanks to the Freemasons Lodge and the Institute Committee for room use and Mr A A Davey for preparation. Officers for the coming year were elected: President Rev H E Bartlett. Vice-presidents Mrs A B Riggs and Rev Martin. Hon Secretary Miss H Wilkinson. Minute Secretary and Treasurer Mr A Strong.
