25 000 Hospital Appeal Planned For Nurses Quarters

Preparations are complete for a £25,000 hospital appeal to fund nurses quarters and renovations at Burrs Hospital. The plan includes a nurses home as part of a future block and essential patient facilities improvements. Donations may be sent to the Secretary at Box 39 BurrA. funds already in hand and advance donations encouraged to use tax concessions this year.

Kangaroo and Four Foxes Found Dead in Tank

A caretaker named Gast found the bodies of a kangaroo and four foxes in an old underground water tank about nine to ten feet deep. The kangaroo likely fell in at night while in a paddock near a taxi, and the foxes then entered the tank seeking an easy meal but perished after failing to escape.

C W A Avenue Completed Amid Town Planting Drive

The remaining works for CWA Avenue were completed with new trees planted from Hanson turn-off to town. The avenue began in 1951 at Burra CWA Branch request funded by CWA. Burra Town Council replaced trees last year after sheep damage and renewed three. Town Council also planted about 150 trees this year including 50 along Memorial Oval and replacements for natural losses.
