Local Boards Report Diphtheria Immunization Applications

Diphtheria immunization campaigns have attracted over 100 applications with more expected. Sixty percent seek booster injections to be given on the second day of the three month course. Fire Brigade Contribution Up for Burra Council

Burra Town Council received a notice from Mire Brigades Board showing the Burra Fire Brigade’s projected twelve month expenditure at 2450 pounds. The council would contribute 25 percent of total costs. the annual amounts have risen from £86 in 1995 to 2106 last year and to 112/100 this year.

Early Start on New Burra Hanson Road Hinted

Burra Burra District Council expects an early start on a new road from Burra to Hanson. Surveyors visited the district and tenders for much of the work will be called soon. The plan runs the road along the eastern side of the railway line to Hanson, reducing railway crossings and shortening the distance between Burra and Hanson.

Premier to Visit Burra for Lecture and Films

The Premier of South Australia plans a Burra visit to lecture and screen films on the Whyalle Pipe Line project. The trip, originally set for June 23, was tentatively postponed to June 24 to avoid Parliament opening. Mayor H J B Jenelson and local agricultural bureaus sponsor the engagement.

Burra District Council Expands Road Making Machinery

The Burra District Council leverages an interest free government scheme to borrow for road making gear. Purchases include a Seair? grader frontend loader, a 14 yard scoop, a five ton Bedford truck, and a Roadmaster grader on order. The council aims to deploy about £500 worth of machinery for repairs, patrols, and road work with anticipated late deliveries.

Burra School Welfare Club Meeting Highlights

Burra Primary School Welfare Gly held a well attended meeting at the school on 1 Tune. Discussion covered raising future funds. A £2 2s 0d donation from visiting teachers funded a school library purchase. Headmaster thanked ladies for the School of Method success. Proceeds from the afternoon were 12s 8d, trading table revenue noted. Forms obtainable at the Burrs Record office for 1/ each.

C.W.A. Gives 30 Dollars to Burra Town Hall

The Burra Branch of the CWA sent a cheque for 30 dollars to Burra Town Council to repay principal on the town hall debt. This is their second major donation in twelve months from luncheon proceeds at the Burra Races.

Big English firm eyes copper smelter 1000 miles from Alice Springs

A British company with £775,000 capital seeks Treasury approval to build a £350,000 copper smelter 200 miles north of Alice Springs to treat ore from Bullion Coppermine. Mines near Burra are cited as still payable, with mailings to English offices aiming to attract interest in Burra workings.

Burra Stonecrusher Repairs Move Forward

Burra District Council seeks to repair the railway quarry stonecrusher whose jaws are broken. Hawke & Co of Kapunda arranged to cast new jaws after approaching Jacques and Co of Melbourne for casting patterns. Jacques and Co declined, and Hawke & Co requested the Council to forward the broken parts for moulding.

Burra Football Club Plans Away Trip to Wallaroo

At a Burra Football Club meeting a motion to take an away trip to Wallaroo was carried. The Burra team will travel on September 25 with a trial game arranged. If Wallaroo cannot host, the secretary will contact Walkerle or An gasten clubs.
