The CSIRO Division of Building Research reports a new method to combat unsoundness in magnesian limes used in building. By adding a solution to the lime, the process hydrates lime more completely, enabling controlled expansion and reduced joint disintegration. Trials with calcium and magnesium chlorides show expansion stays within standard building lime specifications.
