Booborowie Red Cross Branch Meeting Report

The February meeting of the Booborowie Red Cross Branch was led by President Mrs Prahm with good attendance. Donations were acknowledged from Mr Day and Mr and Mrs HG Mayfield, while the branch reported a bank balance of 30/1779 and total monthly subscriptions of £3/9/0. Seventeen and 3 Welk doven eags were packed for the Cheer Up Hut and a miscellaneous cache was planned for next month. Items brought in included a long sleeved cardigan, one pair of socks, gloves, a sheet and tea towels.

St Joseph’s Dance Aids Church Funds At Local Event

St Joseph’s members staged a fund raising dance on Wednesday evening to augment church funds. Music by Lindsay Jettner’s Band featured Mrs Jettner and Mrs Field with violin and piano. Attendance was strong, décor centered on pink gladioli, catering by volunteers, and a stage front window display noted. Prizes in competitions went to Mr and Mrs T Corry, with Mr H H Garrord winning the house competition. secretary F Murphy praised for handling duties.

Burra Red Cross Executive Meeting Notes

The Burra Red Cross held its monthly executive meeting at Burra North on Friday 12 February with ten members present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Apologies came from Crean Mrs Stele and Miss P Genders. Secretary Miss Rogers read the financial statement of the recent Red Grass Junot Convention. Discussions covered continuing the executive and revision of the constitution. Branch reports were presented and further reports will be considered at the next meeting, scheduled for the second Friday in March at 2 19 pm. A single annual appeal was resolved for the year.

Burra Market, Goldsbrough Mort Co Ltd, held its usual monthly market at Burma on Friday February 5. Attendance was good with both local and outside buyers, and bidding was keen. Yardage totaled 4,473 sheep with varied prices for Gebhardt Blood lines, wethers, ewes, lambs, and mixed ages. Notable quotes show wethers around 21s6d and ewes near 19s to 19s10d, with lambs and mixed-sex lots ranging from about 11s9d to 20s3d.

The Burra 8 5 L Wives Group held a monthly business meeting on Friday February 5 with President Mrs Hawker in the chair. Delegates from Unite Committee urged a direct appeal and house to house canvassing for the Uncannus Special Appeal. Members urged to donate to renovate poppies and support the Blind Soldiers fund. At Burra Hospital this morning the death occurred of Mr Charles W Held a once prominent Far Northern pastoralist after a short illness The deceased gentleman who was despite his age a man of striking personality and build was formerly manager of the Beltatia Pastoral Company retiring some years ago He was 80 years old For some years Mr and Mrs Reid have resided at Collinsville station with their daughter and pastoral Mrs and Mr Lindsay Collins Besides the widow there are two daughters Mrs Call ing and Mrs Saies of Renmark
