In Hallett early Friday around 2 a.m. a lightning bolt struck a bale stack near Me Brie Rabby in Asti Tees. Firefighters from town and district suppressed the blaze, saving two other stacks and about ninety tons of hay. Rain aided containment. responders fed on arrival. Neighbors praised the quick response of local fire units.

Fire on goods train sparks Hallett grass blaze

A third fire this season near Hallett was started by a goods train on Monday morning. The blaze burned about 20 acres of grassland on Est G S Melrose property before firefighters contained it. Three fires have occurred within two to three miles of Hallett Railway Station as water lines are kept on the line. In Hallett a prominent resident Mrs Jurapet Vue Aonag known to locals as The Grand Old Lady died Sunday morning aged 83 years eight months. She lived alone since her husband’s death nine years ago and was deeply involved in the Methodist Church. Funeral was held with one of the longest processions seen in Hallett, attended by nine of her children and several grandchildren. Grandsons Tremsra 2elth Deyner and Rex Muller served in World War I. Rev Gowan Armstrong conducted the graveside service and J Pearce Son handled arrangements.
