Pioneer T W J McCormick of Torranto claims to convert tobacco into smoke without ignition using a midget electric heater in pipes and holders. He says the device heats tobacco below its ignition point, extracting maximum value and producing a fragrant, flameless smoke. It also avoids odor and helps those who misplace matches.
A London nose and throat specialist reportedly endorses an orange diet to cure hay fever in a few days. He cautions that medical advice is needed before fasting and that poisons must be eliminated from the body during the seven day plan.
A 184 pound mutton carcase from a three year old pure Border Leicester ewe born to Gladys Kelton of Echuca West Young Farmers Club was shown in a local butcher shop window. The carcase weighed 184 pounds and drew attention for its exceptional size.
A midday drowning at the Mine Pool claimed 10-year-old Billy Marcus of Aberdeen after a raft capsize. Bob Goble and a friend from Adelaide were nearby as rescuers and officials from Redruth to Burra cooperated, but resuscitation failed after about an hour. Funeral held at St Marys with Burra Primary School staff in attendance.
Burra High School held its annual break up on Tuesday December 15 at the Institute with a large audience. Prize and certificate presentations followed as students and staff presented a varied programme supervised by Headmaster T W Charlesworth Miss R Isom Braddock and T Kissel.
