A notice from the Corporation of Burra calls a meeting of farmers and interested residents on Monday December 15 1930 in Booborowie to discuss farmers issues and resolutions. A separate notice announces nominations for a vacancy on the Town Council to fill the mayoral post with nominations closing Tuesday December 16 1930 and adjournment if needed to December 23 1930.

Burra items note onions wheat strawberry fete and a grass fire

The window shows Oscar Oates of Kooringa with odorless onions weighing about a pound each. Heinrich of Flagstaff near Burra delivered the first wheat of the season, three bushels to a bag. A fire at the Burra Hotel rear involved burning grass started by young boys. it was quickly controlled. Little Jean McDonald did not present the sweets basket as claimed.

A town council held its welcome meeting with the mayor and discussed the annual committee return. A successful dispersal sale of stud sheep by Co. Limited attracted broad attendance, though overall market spirits were low. bidding recovered as the sale progressed with strong demand for select rams and ewes and a list of special stud and flock stock offered at varied prices.

Organ Recital by John Dempster at St Mary's Burra

City Organist of Ade laide John Dempster gave an organ recital at St Mary's Burra. He repeated Bach Gavotte on request and played works by Guilmant Merkel Handel and others between vocal numbers by Bessie Woollacott and others. Rector Rev J S W Coles thanked him and hoped for a future visit.

District Council of Apoinga appoints overseer and sets costs

District Council of Apoinga met at Emu Owns on November 26 1920. Overseer work near Koonaana and Parkne’s was discussed with little progress and expense considerations. Seven tenders were received for overseer, Cr Sandland moved to reappoint the current overseer, while Cr Park moved opposite. Council approved appointment from January 1921 at £95 yearly. Clerks to write government about half cost of new roller cylinder and boundary road improvements. Next meeting set for December 20.

Cheer-up Fete Draws Praise and Support from Women

A Verdax afternoon fete hosted by the General Aid Society showcased bright stalls and a strawberry tea. Mrs Warnes opened the event lauding the organizers led by Miss Flora Rowe and Miss Bubb, while Rev. F. Lawton and others thanked them for civic charity and community spirit.
