T E Gorman a Monticello insurance agent was driving a Velie touring car stolen from a Newport salesroom by two young men who kidnapped the night watchman and fled. The watchman’s father fired, wounding one robber. the pair abandoned the car two miles out and fled in a waiting vehicle. The car, insured, was recovered and paid out to Gorman, who later used the vehicle in Burnettsville.

Civil War Veterans Hold Fortieth Sixth Indiana Reunion
Twenty members of the Forty sixth Regiment of the Indiana Infantry held their 86th annual reunion in Logansport last Thursday. Officers elected were Thomas Sleeth president, Mrs. Bertha Stair vice president, Hez Robinson secretary and treasurer, and Mrs. Mary Coble Daughter of the Regiment. In the evening they dined on a two course chicken dinner at the home of Mrs. Charles Grant. The oldest present were Sampson Shuey and T. B. Ginn aged 84. the youngest was Dr. Brown, 73. Wm. Myers and daughter Mrs. Mary Coble of this place attended.

Hoosier minister takes post with Alabama-Florida Farms at Big Springs
Rev. M. A. Hughes former Monticello resident and Idaville Church of God pastor has signed as director of Community Welfare for the Alabama-Florida Farms Company. He and his family will move from Anderson to Big Springs, Florida in November. His son Edward, soon to graduate from Anderson business college, will join the southern office in Pensacola. The company bought 30,000 acres across Florida and Alabama, subdividing into small farms with modern improvements suitable for fruit, corn, oats, peanuts and forage.

Old Friends Meet in Carroll County Reunion

White County Bootlegger Sentenced to Penal Farm
White County bootlegger Rosesee Mummet appeared before Judge B F Carr in Monticello on charges of selling liquor and keeping it to sell. He received 200 and 100 dollar fines plus costs totaling 3890 90 and six years at the Indiana State Penal Farm. Mummet, tied to his Monticello tire business, paid the fines and was taken to the state farm by Sheriff Ben Price Jr.
