Official notice from White county reports Schuyler C. Mowrer wounded in France while serving with the Coast Artillery. He landed 31 August with the First Trench Mortar Battery and may be the first from the county to reach France and to be wounded. A rumor of his death proved unfounded. mail reports will take two weeks.

Many Autoists Arrested in Logansport Friday
Wholesale arrests of autoists were made at Logansport on Friday as a step toward enforcing new license plates. Many drivers had ignored prior notices and continued using 1917 plates while others awaited renewed licenses, delaying shipment by the secretary of state’s office. Other cities are following Logansport’s example.

Freight Routed East Over The Pennsy
Eastern bound freight moves via the Pennsylvania lines to avoid Chicago yards. Timber cars, from eighty to one hundred feet, were shipped in eight square dressed timbers, with several hot runs last week. Many flat cars head west to return loaded with timber, and solid train loads of dressed meats move to eastern ports for foreign shipment. The era may see the highest volume of traffic in the road's history.

Hafford Leaves Grocery To Become a Farmer
A. C. Hafford sold his Burnettsville grocery to R. J. Braden and rented the Donnelly farm near Reynolds on the Monticello road. The 98 acre property is in a good neighborhood and he has begun acquiring stock and preparing for spring planting while the family remains in Burnettsville for the school term.

Farmer Elmer Davis Brings Seed Corn Load From Idaville
Elmer Davis drove the A. F. Galbreth truck to Young America Friday and returned with fifty one bushels of seed corn for Idaville farmers. The corn, bought from Dr. Lybrook who held over 2000 bushels of old 1916 crop, sold at five dollars per bushel. The lot was cleared by Friday and the farm resembled a fairground with many teams entering and leaving.

Simon A. Dobbins, longtime county figure and former sheriff for four years, died Saturday at his Reynolds home after years of illness from diabetic gangrene.
