Logansport police jailed thirteen alleged motor law violators over a weekend and error sparked rural drivers to protest city court fines. The Defining Oil Company of Terre Haute has leased about 5000 acres north and west of Monticello and shipped equipment for the first oil well. A definite site isn’t announced, but the Bennett Taylor farm near Guernsey is widely considered the likely location.
J. J. Buchanan and his daughter spent Tuesday in Fulton, engaging with local residents and enjoying a brief outing in the city. The pair were seen touring shops and chatting with townspeople during their visit.
Milt Mertz and daughter Sara earned three premiums at the 13th Annual Purdue Egg Show. Mr Alerts placed fourth in the fancy egg class, Sara took fourth in commercial eggs and ninth in high school fancy eggs. Entries used Barred Plymouth Rock hens.
Mrs Elmer Gugle and son were guests of friends in Monticello Monday. Claud Galbreth returns from Chicago dental school. Wallace and Dwight Buchanan stayed with relatives in Logansport last week. Fern Gugle visited relatives in Monticello over Sunday. Mr and Mrs Stone and son of Logansport visited the Beshears in Monticello. Mrs Fred Saylor and son are guests of Mrs Sharpe in Idaville this week. Ben Cresse and niece from Wolcott and Laura Kinney of Monticello visited Sunday. Will Duffey visited Chicago to see his wife and daughter visiting her parents. Mr and Mrs Kingery and daughter from Canada visited the Gagles. Rev Dilling and son Lawrence of Mt Morris and Martha Grider of Geneva were guests Tuesday. Harold and Frank Risser, Audrey Byers and families visited near Monticello last week. C F Warrenburg and wife from San Jose, California, visited Wm McEtheny. Warrenburg is McEtheny’s aunt. They then went to Logansport. Wm Myers learned of his brother’s death in Bluffton. Moyers and daughter Mary Coble, with her son John, left for Bluffton for the funeral. Mrs I E Mowrer left for Bloomington to attend Indiana University commencement. her son Schuyler is in the graduating class. She will visit Rev John Walton in Ladoga before returning home.
Miss Nellie Mae Benjamin of Monticello wed Ronald E. Hunter of Young America at the Manse on East Market Street Logansport in a Sunday morning ceremony. The couple planned a tri city auto trip and will reside at 1117 Spencer Street Marion after July 1.
State Public Service Commission scheduled a rehearing of Delphi's telephone rate controversy for 10 a.m. on Monday June 20 after a mass meeting of citizens and prominent business leaders urged reconsideration of an earlier rate increase granted at the start of the year. The hearing follows an application by the telephone company and was announced Friday morning in Delphi.
Mrs Mary Million born 1842 in Ohio came to Indiana with Alkire parents on the Godlove farm north of Idaville. Married 1860 to Robert Million they had three children and resided nearby. She died June 1 at 79 after a short illness, funeral at Baptist Church June 4 with interment at Davis cemetery.
The transfer of Jesse Fauber to Indiana State Prison at Michigan City raises White County’s total sentenced to penal institutions since January 1, 1921 to twenty three. Twenty are in state or federal prisons and three are under suspended sentence.
