John C Vannatta Dies at Brookston Home
John C Vannatta a Brookston prominent and wealthy businessman died Friday morning at his home. His death followed injuries from an automobile accident four years earlier that weakened his heart though his activity remained. He served as president of the Bank of Brookston and the Bank of Reynolds and owned about 1809 acres in this county with total estate holdings between three and four thousand acres.

Pioneer Woman Mary Burns Horine Dies at County Farm
Mary Burns Horine nee Mary Burns died December 11 at the county farm from infirmities of old age. She was laid to rest December 13 in Idaville cemetery. Born west of Idaville on the old sport and Monticello mail road, she lived near Idaville and Monticello. She worked in a woolen mill and injured her leg, later walking with a limp. She was a member of the Idaville U P Church and past eighty. At seventy she married Nelson J. Horine and remained until care at the county farm became necessary.

First White County Man Dies In Present War
Charles O. Brown of Monon died at Camp Shelby Hattiesburg Mississippi during the present war. He was 23 and served in Co B of the List Indiana Infantry. Brown’s remains were returned to Monon for burial.
