Editorial warns newspapers about postal rules banning advertisements for lotteries and guess contests. It notes that any publication containing such schemes or prize lists must be withdrawn from the mails and urges post office workers to exclude related mail.
Construction material for a high tension line from the Norway dam to Logansport has been unloaded in the local switch yard. Interstate Public Service Co. is building the line to supply power to Logansport street cars and local industries, with the route north from Logansport then west via White Post road toward the dam, about four miles north of Burnettsville, bringing power closer to Royal Centre.
The note states that double tickets will be given until the contest closes on all Nyal Products.
A Christmas line of diners at the Moore restaurant met a mishap as George Spencer and family were guests of Mr and Mrs Hobaugh at Monticello on Sunday.
At the December term the White County Board of County Commissioners ordered the county auditor to advertise the sale and removal of the old county jail. Built of stone and unused for years it was condemned on sanitary grounds. The adjoining sheriff’s residence is also dilapidated and a new residence may be rented.
John G. Brown retires from the presidency of the Indiana Federation of Farmers Associations at the annual convention. He declines another year to avoid neglecting duties with National farm organizations. He is credited as founder of the state federation and honored for elevating farmers welfare, receiving a silver mere chaum pipe.
John A Rothrock elected commander of Thornton Williams Post No. 81 Monticello for the coming year. Rothrock, a young attorney and likely the state’s youngest legion commander, is a 1918 Monticello high school graduate who later joined the navy. Also chosen were Clyde Timmons first vice commander, Lawrence Corey adjutant, C B Barnes war risk insurance officer, John Conn chaplain, Robert Ross servant at arms, Sam Margowsky historian, Fred Meeker on executive committee, with Everett L Gardner W Schiademan H K Brucker Phineas H Young and Harry Anheier. A proposed dues increase from $3 to $5 was defeated.
The December gathering of the Home Economics Club will be hosted by Mrs. R. R. Alexander on Friday December 29. An officer election for next year will take place and an exchange of Christmas gifts valued at 25 cents will be featured.
The monthly report by State Fire Marshal Gamber attributes October fires in Illinois mainly to matches and smoking. Cigarette ends and careless matches started 166 blazes, the single largest cause, with $48,212 in losses from this source. The state total fire loss reached $1,307,080.
A pretty wedding occurred Saturday at 8 o'clock at the Baptist manse uniting Miss Freda Meeker daughter of Delos and Mrs Meeker south of town with Arthur Berkshire son of William and Mrs Berkshire of Royal Centre. Witnesses Euos Berkshire and Miss Berkshire brother and sister of the groom plus Miss Vernia Fry and Glen Patty. The newlyweds reside on a farm three miles south of Royal Centre.
Mrs. E. M. Howard died in Chicago last Friday from pneumonia after months of ill health. She spent time in a sanitarium and was brought to Logansport for a Monday funeral at E. P. Hutts home. Rev. Corkey led the service. The casket was placed in a crypt at Mt. Hope cemetery. She is survived by her husband, son Donald, daughter Margaret, and several grandchildren all residing in Chicago.
Ackerman Music Shop advertises bargains on slightly used phonographs including 5 Victors 2 Edisons 1 Sonora 1 Brunswick and 1 Clear Tone. Daniel Brady to sell farming outfit next Wednesday before moving to Royal Centre. James Gardner and family visited Ray Personett and family on Sunday.
Eck Nicoles who has lived on Snow farm east of Lociport for 22 years buys one third in terest in the Duffey and Shaffer 357 acre farm northeast of town. He plans to move there soon and will continue stock raising with a fine lot of pure bred cattle and hogs on the property.
A Ford coupe owned by Don Grube of Logansport was found yesterday morning by the road east of Jake Long's woods. The car had been stripped of the radiator three tires and other parts after being taken from in front of the Paramount theatre the night before.
Burnettsville high school prepares for a basketball game against Lucerne at Idaville tomorrow evening December 15 at eight o'clock. The locals have played 13 games this season with 8 wins and 5 losses and have one game remaining against Chalmers on December 22.
Fourteen White County Club boys and County Agent Roscoe Fraser returned home Friday after attending the International Live Stock Exposition in Chicago. They describe the trip as enjoyable and instructive and urge others to join Club work to compete for next year’s prize trip to the stock show.
District evangelist Aschanhart of Rochester led a three week revival at the local Christian church. The service concluded Sunday evening with seventeen additions to the congregation and renewed interest in church work.

The old residence behind the church in Lockport will be sold at public auction on Saturday afternoon December 16 at 2 30 for cash to the highest bidder. Proceeds fund a new roof for the church.

Hoosier Democrat reports a Ku Klux Klan rally near Burlington Carroll County with about 100 members marching from a Cutler Burlington road site to the town center. A car bore the Fiery Cross with red lights as robed figures processed to a platform by the Burlington bank and Harness garage for about an hour of speeches and demonstrations. The crowd was described as the largest ever seen in Burlington with heavy traffic and cars lining main streets. It is unclear if initiation occurred that night.
During the war the government issued war savings stamps at about 4 percent. Now Treasury savings certificates in $25 $100 and $1,000 denominations are sold at $20.50 $82 and $820 respectively, yielding 4 percent at five years. Exchange available at Burnettsville post office for 1918 stamps due January 1 1928.
The road bed under Logansport’s Cicott street bridge over the Wabash river is described as a disgrace and near unfit for loading. The concrete structure cost taxpayers thousands of dollars, yet its road bed remains poor.
