The Railroad War Board reports moving one field army of 80,000 men requires 6,229 cars in 366 trains with 366 locomotives. In September to October 687,000 National Army recruits must be moved to cantonment camps plus 350,000 National Guard men to training camps. Large crop movement adds to demand, risking car and locomotive shortages and railroad congestion.
Early risers on Sunday found a complete traffic guide post with an American flag in the Main and Fourth street crossing. It appeared overnight, causing curiosity about its origin. Will Besboar first noticed it and reset the post in the crossing. A similar post was reportedly missing from Remington, suggesting possible relocation. Local storemen tend it at night.
More than fifty Henry family members met at Spencer Park Logansport on Tuesday August 21 for the nineteenth annual reunion. Brief addresses a sumptuous dinner and sociability marked the gathering with relatives from Kirkaville Lake Cicott Idaville Monticello Delphi Rockfield Andrews Wabash Fort Wayne Summitville National Military Home and Fairmount Indiana. Officers reelected included President J A Townsley Lake Cicott Vice President Daniel Heiny Idaville Secretary Thyrza Heiny Monticello.
Miss Florence Graham spent a weekend with her sister in England, enjoying time together and sightseeing during a brief overseas visit.
The War Department ordered mobilization of nearly all Indiana National Guard at Fort Benjamin Harrison once supplies are ready. Most Indiana units are already encamped statewide. Water shortages at Hattiesburg could delay departures for training in the south, affecting Indiana and Kentucky troops.
Purdue University alumni and former students in Agriculture and Home Economics will attend the annual meeting on Thursday September 6 at the Indiana State Fair. They plan to meet at the Purdue building on the fair grounds at 10 30 in the morning. More than 15000 Purdue men and women are statewide. The gathering has long been a custom at the State Fair to reconnect and discuss the year’s program.
An exhortation urges households to fill coal bins before winter to avoid coal shortages as rail capacity strains and government needs increase. It warns that local dealers may struggle to obtain coal from mines when conditions worsen. Be wise and buy coal when available.
The twenty sixth annual Good and Hilderbrand reunion will be held Sunday September 2 1917 on the lawn at Mrs Tib Guthries home. All friends of the families are invited to attend. Olive Beshoar secretary.

The 28th annual Conference of the Church of God began in Lockport on Tuesday morning and will close tomorrow evening with an address by J Raymond Sch midt of Indianapolis state chairman of the Prohibition Party. Delegates attend from New Castle Pious Oak Grove Headlee Logansport Zion Bethel Allen Bethel Idaville Liberty Chicago Chapel Pauls Chapel and Pleasant Ridge. An interesting program is being rendered and much interest is shown in the meeting.
The Medford Oregon Tribune reports Mrs H L Wilson has nursed Blue Ledge mine operator E L Jones for three months and now attends him at Sacred Heart hospital. Jones, operated on by Dr A E Rocky, is improving and has been moved home to Mrs Wilson's Roosevelt Avenue residence for continued care.
Ethel Reynolds Roach aged 17 died Saturday at about noon at her mother Mrs. Chas Clark home near Patton after weeks of illness. She is survived by her husband Harley W Roach married only a few months. Funeral Tuesday at Oak Grove Church with interment at River View Cemetery.
Charles Caley and family hosted Ed Caley and relatives in Logansport for a weekend visit. Jessie Davis of Logansport spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Frank Davis. Rev E E Corts attended the Church of God New Dunkard gathering and stayed as a guest in town.
The Johnsonbaugh Conde families held their annual reunion at Charles Girard's farm grove with over a hundred attendees. A noon dinner was served and old officers were re elected for another year. Next year’s reunion will be Labor Day at Charles Johnsonbaugh's home. out of town guests included Otis Johnsonbaugh and niece Wy Song of Lebanon, Helen Johnsonbaugh of Walkerville, and Con do of Connersville.
The annual White County Teachers Institute began Monday in Monticello high school auditorium and had 155 teachers enrolled by Wednesday. Instructors are L. E. McGinnes of Steeltown Pa and R. D. Calkins of Central State Normal School. J. H. McCully, White County Red Cross chairman, spoke on Red Cross work and teaching patriotism.
The third annual Cass County Fair opened in Logansport Tuesday morning with the largest entries in the fair's history. Weather has challenged the event but organizers hope for full progress as the program proceeds.
Mr and Mrs John Shear of Monon visited J S York and wife last week. Nelson Grantham reported 30 bushels per acre and Frank Timmons 35 on wheat fields. Victor Sheets and wife and Roy Personett and wife toured South Bend to visit Mrs Abshire. Prof Harry Fitting of Indianapolis to teach agriculture at Monticello High School succeeding O E Ackerson, Purdue 1916 graduate. William Gardner and his mother visited James Gardner in Bloomington, returning early next week. Phil Amick bought a Heider 20 25 tractor with three bottom plow via sale through J J Buchanan.
Mary M. Barnes aged 56 died at home Friday afternoon after long illness and California years. Rev. Davisson led service. Cedar Ville cemetery burial. Survived by Lavina Eldredge Sarah Drake Robert Barnes and W A Harnes. George Kerbox died Sunday at home of his stepson Charles Sutter after long illness. Civil War veteran. Carrie Burkett died at home Friday aged twelve after brief illness. Brethren church service. Davis cemetery burial.
Mr and Mrs Rollo Alexander traveled to New Castle to visit his sister Mrs Martindale returning home Sunday. Frank Clay from Midland South Dakota visited his father Jerry Clay whose health is poor. Peru guests Leta Geneva Wright Pauline Archibald called on Dorothy Bell. Mary Mertz and family left Lorain Ohio after visiting relatives. A tractor demonstration at Purdue drew several local attendees. Brethren Church Homecoming at North Manchester drew over a thousand people and was enjoyable.
