Local notices recap daily greetings and visits among residents including Van McCulley’s return home and family travels. Classifieds announce for sale wagons and stove wood, plus land and services. Several residents travel to nearby towns, visit relatives, or relocate for work. Old papers sold at the News Office. car notes and typhoid healing referenced.
Morning Sunday School at 10 a m supervised by Homer Hanna. Preaching at 11 a m. Evening Bible Society at 7 30 p m with preaching at 8 p m led by Pastor G B Heeter.
Sunday School aims for a 200 attendee class at 10 AM with the young men’s group of over 40 in a new room. Morning worship at 11 AM. B Y P A meets at 6 30 PM followed by evangelist sermon at 7 15 PM led by Rev John Walton.
The M. E. Church holds preaching at 11:00 A M every second and fourth Sunday and 7:30 P M each Sunday evening. Epworth League meets every Sunday evening at 6:20. Rev. E M Kuonga.
A notice calls readers to attend Bible school at 10 00 a m on August 20 1916 The Bible school urges participation and mentions a price for attendance or related offering.
The 24th annual Good and Hildebrand reunion will be held at Lake Cicott Indiana on September 7 1916. Olive Beshoar secretary invites all to attend.
Elton Shaffer buys a new Hupmobile in Indiana and notes its brakes. C E Girard sells a Maxwell and plans another car shipment next week. Harry Girard of Kentland visits Sherman Risser. Preble family travels through to Logansport for reunions. The Dobbins funeral from Wolcott to Monticello drew a large crowd with about a hundred cars in procession.
A correction to last week's obituary states Mrs Arnott and Mrs Siford cared for Mrs Stephens during the final two weeks of illness and were with her at her death at her home south of town.
A state inspector noted required improvements at Burnettsville High School and not a loss of commission. The additions are under way as fully qualified teachers are secured and a plan to meet annual commission standards is in place.
Ven McCulley suffered serious injuries when his car crashed at the cement culvert east of the Wm. Banta farm while returning from Logansport. Walter Cotner, though cut and bruised, escaped serious harm. McCulley was rushed to Logansport for treatment and showed great improvement days later.
The nation’s press conference reports a severe print paper shortage with many papers cutting sheets to a minimum. Washington predicts a price and supply crisis to worsen by October as demand from elections and wartime events grows, with possible collusion questions among manufacturers.
Gilbert C. Gates of Hopewell road died after brakes failed while descending Carrollton hill near the Wabash river. His car left the road, rolled several times, nearly severing his head. He was treated in Delphi by Dr. Crampton and survived until the fatal injuries were found.
In Elkhart Indiana on August 19 a first local case of infantile paralysis linked to an Eastern outbreak is reported. Five year old Lucretia Warner, living with Uncle and Aunt Fred and Mrs App, has had a week of fever and now shows possible temporary paralysis in the left leg. Her grandmother was Levi Barnes’s daughter Minnie Barnes.
A Monday evening crash occurred on the way to Logansport when Rev. Walton’s vehicle left the road into a ditch. He was transporting Mrs. McCafley and children. an attempt to hand a coat to a back seat passenger preceded the mishap.
An about eighty year old man known as Captain Liston was struck and killed by a Fort Wayne and Northern Indiana Traction interurban near Delphi after stepping onto the track. The car halted at Delphi, transporting the body to the coroner, burial followed at St. John’s Cemetery near Logansport. He leaves two sons Emnett Logansport and Lee Burnettsville and a daughter Carrie Plainfield.

C A Barnes and family departed Wednesday for Leake Winona. Mr Barnes is off on his creation.
