Local Officers Undergo Training at North Fort Hood
Two Burnet men joined the 49th Armored Division during a two week annual training at North Fort Hood with about 11 500 citizen soldiers participating in the exercise.
Waite Honored At Granite Shoals Ice Cream Social
Granite Shoals Mayor Joe Waite was honored at an ice cream social held at the Granite Shoals Fire Station. The event was hosted by the Community Civic Club Sherwood Shores Women’s Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Granite Shoals Fire Department. Sgt John Friberg and Capt R A Underwood of Burnet serve in the 149th Adjutant General Company which supports the division. The 149th AG Company softball team won the 49th Armored Division championship. Captain Underwood received a trophy from Lt Col Earl Wilkes. The AG Company earned praise from Fort Hood Regular Army Evaluators for its training mission. Burnet area residents may contact Capt Underwood at 756-2719 to join the Texas Army National Guard.

Hubert King Carson 82 died Monday afternoon June 21 1976 in a local hospital. Services were held June 23 at First Baptist Church Burnet with Michael Cox and Carl Schlomach officiating. Interment followed in Burnet Cemetery. He was born October 20 1893 in Burnet County and was a deacon at First Baptist Church a past Burnet school board member and a Woodmen of the World member. He is survived by his wife Minnie and three daughters plus two sons, one sister and one brother. Pallbearers were listed.
