New Deputy Sworn In for Bertram Area in Texas

Gene Schilling a 42 year old former Burnet County deputy and Burnet city police officer was sworn in Thursday as deputy for the Bertram area to replace Frank Hines who was fired by Sheriff Wallace Riddell. Schilling had left the sheriff's department in 1974 to start a plumbing business in Bertram and returned after salary talks with the Sheriff and Weldon Buck. He previously served as Burnet city policeman and Copperas Cove officer and worked as deputy again after March 10, 1973 the tornado day in Burnet. He and his wife Charlene have five children.

Sheriff Fires Three Deputies Amid Staffing Shakeup in Burnet

Chief Deputy Weldon Buck says no new hires planned after the firing of three deputies. Frank Hines and Danny Reid were dismissed for insubordination, while Leroy Lemming was fired for over a year on the payroll without certification. A new deputy replaces Hines in Bertram. Reid to be replaced in Silver Creek. Lemming vacancy will not be filled.

Ex Coach Becomes Burnet High Principal for 1976 77

Burnet school board named former Burnet football coach Cliff Vandeventer as the new high school principal for the 1976 77 year. Vandeventer, 47, led Burnet to a district title in his final Burnet season and will replace Harry Heickman who may stay as curriculum director. The board also approved seven new hires including teachers and coaches at various district schools.

Preliminary Plans Ond For New Burnet Library

Burnet County Library Board approved preliminary plans for an 8000 square foot library by architect Charles Croft of Austin. Estimates may not exceed 250000 dollars including consultant fees. Construction is set to begin September 1 with Brown Foundation support of 218000 dollars and a 2000 dollar donation from H E Butts Foundation.

Taylor Outlines 2p.m. Johnson City Meeting

Guthrie Taylor of Bertram outlined the Pedernales Electric Co annual membership meeting in Johnson City for 2 p.m. The main event is the election of three directors and seven advisory directors by patrons present or voting by proxy. Registration will take place at the meeting site.

Annual PEC director election set today at the Johnson City headquarters with a 10 a.m. to 1 30 p.m. meeting, followed by an organizational session. Proxies may yield up to four votes per person. nominees listed by the nominating committee face on floor nominations for seven director and seven advisory posts.
