Lone Star Gas manager J W Johnson asks Burnet officials to approve a city ordinance raising residential and commercial gas rates by about 19.8 cents per thousand cubic feet. The move aligns with a Railroad Commission order increasing the intra city gate rate to 1.0399 per Mcf and allows an eight percent return on the rate base.
A Burnet County appeal urges residents to donate blood. The August 2 drive at VFW Post 10376 in Marble Falls runs from 9 00 until enough blood is collected to meet local needs. In 1973 a February drive yielded 110 pints, with far more required to sustain the year.
Lower Colorado River Authority wins a partial judgment of 25,218,060.67 against Coastal States Gas Producing Company and LoVaca Gathering, with Coastal planning an appeal. LCRA says pass‑through fuel costs raised electricity prices and may seek further recovery through PEC refunds to consumers.
The Burnet County Commissioners Court met July 28 with a light agenda. Tax Assessor-Collector Brownlee Feild presented a Supplemental Tax Roll to correct errors, completing the 1974 roll with taxes totaling 48,001.16 state, 247,681 county general, and 84,668 county special. 96.5 percent collected. Feild credited deputies Sallye Long, Donna Green, Alice Jennings, and Nancy Collins. The court also received a Distinguished Service Award from Hill Country Water Conservation District. Attorney Camm Lary presented Rolling Hills subdivision of 12 lots along Highway 281 north of Marble Falls, awaiting local water and utilities arrangements. the court approved the subdivision despite a 40-foot road concern.
The Burnet Housing Authority elected three new directors Ed Young L C Johnston and Wayne Moore at the July 28 meeting. Johnny Melton was chosen as executive director replacing H M Farmer who left to join Christ for the Nations Institute. Billie Pratt became chairman and Ed Young vice chairman. The board also addressed resident complaints about noise and issued a rules booklet.
