DPS Public Auction in Austin for 100 surplus vehicles

The Department of Public Safety and the State Board of Control sponsor a July 27 auction at DPS Headquarters in Austin. Bidders can bid on 100 surplus DPS vehicles plus air conditioned cars office equipment including adding machines typewriters and tape recorders and shop items such as torches drills and air compressors. Two way mobile radios station transceivers and base station cabinets will also be offered.

Lone Star Gas to Acquire Gulf Offshore Company Assets

Lone Star Gas signs a deal to acquire Gulf Offshore Company of Texas assets in exchange for 68,000 Lone Star shares plus debt assumption. Gulf Offshore, based in McAllen, runs production services in the Gulf of Mexico with about 3.75 million dollars in revenue for the year ending April 1974.

Burnet County Fair and Rodeo Set for Weekend

The Eighth Annual Burnet County Fair and Rodeo runs Friday and Saturday at the Burnet County Fairgrounds. Entries close at noon Friday with judging and displays through 8 pm Saturday. Parade starts 5 pm Friday with numerous floats and local groups, followed by two rodeo performances at 8 pm. Tickets cost 2 dollars for adults and 1 dollar for children 6 to 12.

Continental selects Burnet site for district HQ building

Continental Telephone of Texas plans a lease purchase building on seven acres along Highway 281 south of Burnet across the airport highway. Construction starts soon with completion by January 1 1975. The 6500 square foot structure will house engineering, construction, service center and warehouse while the toll center stays at the old site.

School Board Hires New Tax Collector for Burnet CISD

Burnet Independent School District selects John L. Grissom as tax assessor collector after formal interviews. He will take over September 1 as Howard Walker resigns August 31. Grissom currently serves Granbury ISD and plans to relocate with his wife Fran ces. they have two sons.

Epsilon Pi to Give Rifle At Fiddlers Contest

Epsilon Pi Chapter No 1185 in Burnet will raffle a Remington 870 20 gauge shotgun donated by Gibson’s of EC at the Fiddlers contest on August 10. Tickets cost cents each or three for a dollar with proceeds aiding charity. Tickets available from any sorority member and at Burnet venues during the event.

Farm Bureau Urges Nixon to Sign Livestock Credit Bill

The Texas Farm Bureau Board of Directors asks President Nixon to sign H. R. 15560, emergency livestock credit legislation offering up to 250000 in credit to bona fide farmers and ranchers. The telegram from J. T. Red Woodson cites drought and price squeezes as reasons to prevent liquidation of production units.

CAPCO backs loan for industrial park project in Burnet area

CAPCO executive committee supported a $182,000 loan request from Barnet to install water sewer mains and streets for an industrial park and annex the area. The plan includes CAPCO contracts totaling $122,289 for elderly services and a regional water and sewer plan. The package funds transit reading aids and large print materials and expands art prints lending for seniors. The Austin Parks Department will receive funds for transportation to 1650 low income seniors, with matching city support. A $94,875 grant to Travis County DA’s office will continue complaint clearance.

Doggett Plans Burnet Bertram Visit For Convention Talk

State Senator Lloyd Doggett will tour Burnet and Bertram on Friday to discuss the Constitutional Convention and 1975 legislative plans. He meets Bertram residents at Taylor Hardware at 10 30 a m, then lunch with Judge B Pogue, meets County Commissioners on a potential Mormon Mill Ranch state park, and participates in a parade and rodeo. He travels with Libby and their daughter Lisa, returning to a post convention schedule visiting non Austin portions of the district.

Child Development Center Fund Raising Drive Planned

The Child Development Center at 208 N Rhomberg announces a community fundraising project to improve the center building and yard. Cash donations may be deposited at First State Bank or given to ministers alliance members or chairwoman Mrs Eleanora Knight or treasurer Mrs Eursla Kramer. The first project is a yard and bake sale August 9 10 from 8 am to 4 pm. Bring clothing furniture and miscellaneous items to the center now between 6 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday and donated baked goods Thursday or Friday August 8 9. Contributions are tax deductible.

Commissioners Reject CAPCO Manpower Plan in Burnet County

At the July 22 meeting the Burnet County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to oppose the Capitol Area Manpower Plan modification. They also merged Voting Box No 6 with No 20 due to low registrants and deferred action on combining Precincts 16 and 17. The board heard a MH MR advisory request for county training funds and adopted the County Civil Defense Emergency Operation Plan.

Grass and trash fires reported by Burnet Fire Dept. between July 16 and July 23. Incidents include Grass fires at Jay 16 3:00 pm and Donall Estates 5:50 pm, Bill Cain Silver Creek Village 2:05 pm, Izzard Place 12:55 pm east on Route 963, and Clay Lawson Old San Sabard 2:30 am.
