Representatives of both sides of the controversy met a under somewhat strained circumstances thursday night and signed a settlement agreement calling for an election july 25 to name a new Board of directors. The self perpetuating concept of the Board of directors had been one of the biggest issues among those who opposed the arrangement. Full court Ball Okay for lower Grade girls in what appears to be a face saving move the University Scholastic league issued this week regulations concerning school participation in Quot full court basketball Quot or "5 player teams As it chooses to Call the variation of the sport. Quot All varsity High school teams must play 6-player in All contests this year unless they Are playing a team from another state in that state of teams from other states come to Texas they must play the 6-player game at the varsity level Quot the new policy states. It goes on to confuse the regulation by allowing teams other than varsity to play "5 player Quot basketball if the District executive committee votes to allow it. The committee is composed of the school superintendents of each school in the District but customarily superintendents vote according to the wishes of their coaches. The new policy was brought about by a court decision which declared the Quot half court Quot version of the game to be a violation to the civil rights of girls in a suit brought by Catherine nored of Burnet against the Burnet consolidated school District which forced the Uil to change its stand against Quot full court basketball for High school girls. The court however declined to Force school districts to make the change this year holding that next year would be Early enough to make the changeover. Thus the Uil s policy reflects that decision with respect to the varsity teams by in effect acknowledges the need for lower Grade experience in preparation for future years. The Burnet administration and coaching staff in actuality has supported the move to Quot full court girls teams but not All of the teams in the District have been favourable disposed to the changeover. Therefore there is some question As to whether the change even at the lower grades will be made in this District this year. The policy acknowledges that there May be school districts who will not make the change and states a in non District games and in districts where the decision is left to the schools involved the two schools May play whatever Type of game they agree on. In Case there is disagreement the Home team shall determine what Type of game will be the policy even acknowledges the extent of possible confusion that May exist. Quot it is possible to have youngsters who will be playing on no varsity teams in 5-player games who will also play 6-player games at the varsity level. Students May fluctuate from a varsity to a Junior varsity team the same As they have always have even though the two teams May be playing a different Type of the original firemen according to some sources included Only four trained firemen. On several Calls firemen had to wait up to ten minutes for members of the older group to arrive with keys to the station and fire trucks. The newly formed fire department gave in on the agreement the Durn b and agreed to stay with the acc Mfd until a new Board of directors could be elected.
