A Missouri publication reports that the state does not move clocks this Sunday. The U S Senate proposed starting DST on the 2nd Sunday in March with House action pending. OST remains set for the last Sunday in April until final amendments pass.
Burnet Public School Week activities are trimmed due to a severe flu epidemic, with 8:20 am to 3:20 pm visits Thursday March 4 across all Burnet levels. Marble Falls schedules a full slate with two open houses during March 15 week including a high school event on March 4 evening and displays, teacher visits, and the elementary science fair earlier.
Burnet County May Democratic Primary candidate Gene Stratton accuses opponent Jim Cross of misrepresenting his qualifications by posters calling him Democratic candidate for County Attorney. Both say they seek to clear backlogged county court cases.
Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission says The Long Branch private club two miles north of Oakalla Burnet County must close under a 10 day suspension starting March 22 after undercover inspectors found open saloon gambling and intoxicated patrons. Arrests Jan 15 for illegal gaming and public intoxication followed.
The ninth annual Snake Shake and Armadillo Roundup is set for March 13 at the Country Store and Museum on the Square. Burnet citizens will host a festival with a dance, contests, live music, and free samples. prizes honor diverse snake and armadillo categories.
Eddie Petrick’s John Deere crawl loader burst into flames while idle. Firefighters cooled the blaze with water and smoke poured from the exhaust. Investigators and witnesses cited shorted wires, gas leaks, and a bad battery cable as possible causes. Petrick says hydraulic cables and other components burned beyond salvation and he plans to assess recovery.
