Burnet alderman and mayoral candidate Howard Benton lists solid waste disposal and landfill capacity as his top priorities. He supports expanding sewer capacity, exploring partially purified water use, funding an airport hangar, and paving streets without tax increases while maintaining a strong financial status.
Local business firms in the Great Hill Country declare a dedicated Customer Appreciation Week. They thank customers for years of loyalty and invite visits to learn about values and services offered. The Bulletin Advertiser features weekly notices urging residents to explore all area firms and enjoy personalized service.
Bertram City Council unanimously approved hiring John Bonnett as city marshal and authorized spending up to $1,500 on a used patrol car with equipment and a $300 raise for Bonnett. He will attend a six week law enforcement training in Killeen. Bill Lentz offered Bonnett use of security equipment until he equips himself.
More than 200 business people from 65 area establishments attended the Buy in the Great Hill Country seminar dinner at the Highlander Inn Burnet. Louis W. Capone of Media Promotions Ltd spoke on winning customers and increasing sales and urged merchants to keep shoppers from leaving the Hill Country. Attendees from Buchanan Dam Liano Kinosland Marble Falls Bertram and Burnet heard tips on merchandising and promotion and how to supplement the campaign with ads.
Two Copperas Cove women charged with disorderly conduct and indecent exposure saw their trial postponed by Justice of the Peace Chester Kincheloe after a request from the county attorney and their attorneys. The case, tied to an undercover Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission incident at the Long Branch Saloon in Burnet County, now resumes at 10 a.m. March 8. Four other defendants were fined in the same incident with varying pleas and amounts.
Marble Falls residents will pedal for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis in the 1977 Million Dollar Bike Ride. Tonita Williams of ESA Women International in Marble Falls chairs the event at Lakeland United Super. Participants may ride, volunteer, or pledge funds. Danny Thomas founded St. Jude in 1962. ESA has given over $1 million to the hospital. Call Tonita Williams at 693-2082 for details.
Marble Falls ISD trustees meet at 7 tonight for two curriculum reports. Sylvia Everett outlines English instruction findings while Richie Giesecke presents future curriculum needs. Ruth Denny of UT Austin discusses fine arts education in small districts, with a Wooldridge Elementary group performing.
