Burnet City to apply for HUD grant for East Burnet upgrades

Burnet City Council authorized City Manager Jack Tippitt to file a pre application with HUD for a 50 000 to 75 000 grant to upgrade East Burnet. No local match required if approved. If invited to apply, a detailed grant request could cost about 500. Don Gunn of Marble Falls seeks fixed base operator duties at the airport with a city contract. Gunn plans shop services and flight instruction with a potential 760 to 900 cost for upgrades. Gunn to work as city mechanic at 3.00 per hour during startup.

Clint Longley Dallas Cowboys rookie quarterback will be guest speaker at the Burnet Chamber of Commerce banquet at Burnet Elementary School Cafetorium at 7 30 pm. Rev Bert Bronaugh is toastmaster with Ralph Cain as dinner music. Tickets are 6 for adults and 4 for Burnet High students from Charles Brinkley or First State Bank.

Burnet defeated Rosebud Lott 68 to 64 to claim the bi district crown at Southwestern University Gym in Georgetown. Kim Kemper and Mary Eady each scored 31 points, with Louisa Prettrick adding 6 as Burnet held on through late Rosebud rallies and fouls to secure the victory.

Ballot Spots Still Open in Local Elections

Filings for area school board and city alderman positions proceed slowly with vacancies noted. Burnet Consolidated ISD places 2 4 and 6 filled by Hardy Whitfield Burnet Bill Heckman Bertram and Leon Blagg. Precincts 3 and 4 must file by March 5. City needs two aldermen and a mayor to file before April 5.

The Burnet Bulldog Band will sponsor the North Texas State University Concert Band in concert at Bryce Taylor Auditorium Burnet High School on February 28 at 8 00 p m Tickets are sold at the Country Store or from band students Admission is 1 00 for adults 50 cents for children Maurice McAdow directs the NTSU School of Music faculty The concert band is on its 28th annual spring tour and will perform a varied balanced program of selections.

In Marble Falls Friday night February 14 the Boys Varsity Junior Varsity and Freshmen basketball teams swept their opponents. Varsity won 61 52 JV 54 50 and Freshmen 44 43 securing the District 244A title and finishing strong after a slow start.

Blameless Defendants Win Civil Suit In Burnet Case

A Burnet County jury found in favor of Douglas Richards George Humphreys and Elgin Shelburn in a civil matter brought by Jackie Joe Cady. Testimony portrayed Cady as belligerent and drunk while defendants described a conflicting sequence of events with Cady striking first and officers restraining him.
