Burnet County Bulletin (Newspaper) - December 19, 1977, Burnet, Texas Water project costs exceed available funds by More than $600,000bids burst bertrams budget by Miles Hawthorne Bertram a the Bertram City Council thursday night opened bids for the proposed sewer and water project but had to end the meeting without letting the contract because the lowest totals exceeded available funds by $600,000. The bids on the line work alone exceed available funds project Engineer Lynn Willis read the bids to the persons present including Council members and hopeful contractors. Boswell company bid $297,611 on the Plant while water construction of Austin bid $302,323 on the Plant. Panhandle construction of Lubbock bid $1,312,878 for the line work and Complete collection system. Cullum and Dickehut of Marble Falls bid $1,259,880.50 for the line work. There was no bid submitted for the irrigation system which is estimated to Cost $25,000. Bertram originally had $1,200,000 available though some of that has already been spent on the planning phase engineered by Willis and associates of Marble Falls. It is estimated that the City is $625,000 Short of the necessary funds. Mayor Kenneth Odiorne thanked the bidders for their bids and attendance at the meeting after alderwoman Johnnie Mae Wheeler moved to take the matter under advisement. The motion carried unanimously with . Goodwin mrs. Wheeler and Morris Mcdaniel present and voting. Willis pointed out that the Cost estimates which the engineers Are using Are approaching three years old and some of the conditions stated in the bids could drive the Cost of the project even further beyond available funds. The engineers Are now expected to advise the environmental Protection Agency of the situs Hon to see if More funds can be had. Bertram passed Bonds totalling $450,000 of that sum $250,000 Are funds which Epa matched at a 3 1 ration giving the City an additional $750 000 following the exit of the bidders the aldermen and Engi neers discussed the situation speculating on the chances of it to tag another Bond election passed or whittling Down the project to accommodate their budget it was pointed out that a smaller project would Cut into the income from the system.
