The decorations Are various Christ Mons. Burnet improvement on Rhomberg Lane Are will underway and City manager Jack Tippit is terming the project Quot exciting and Quot first Quot i m proud that Burnet is in the position to go ahead with this kind of project Quot Tippit said adding that the Road improvement is a major step toward giving Burnet citizens Quot really Fine the Street improvement extends from Highway 29 to Pecan Street 1,920 feet of curbing guttering and paving. All the utilities affected by the project Are being moved including Light poles and water and sewer lines. Quot just about everybody we be got working is working on it Quot Tippit said. The curbing alone is costing in the neighbourhood of $15,000 and the total Cost of the project is estimated at $30,000. Heavy machinery started work two weeks ago and workmen Are Busy excavating water and Gas lines. A Culvert was recently com plated at the crossing of the Haynie Branch of Hamilton Creek and work is at the stage now that Tippit says Quot we be got our Teeth in the project Quot the upgrading of the existing Street is not entirely new to Burnet but the Rhomberg work is one of the More extensive efforts in the capital improve ments plan which is part of the 1970 master plan recently much discussed by the Council and the planning and zoning commission various aldermen and commis Sion members have expressed concern that the $30,000 master plan is not being implemented. Quot we Are using the master plan Tippit said. No timetable has been established for the completion of the project but work is progressing Well. The Limestone and Dolomite sub base has caused some problems and one Hump in the Road is being left alone to avoid the hard Brittle Rock. Bertram is faced with the january 1 closing of the Burnet municipal dump and has been working to beat the deadline to get the proposed four acre site approved. The Council voted last month to give mayor Kenneth Odiorne and City Secretary Carolyn Smith authority to sign a contract which gives the City a five year lease on the Landfill site in Exchange for Clearing 30 acres of the owner s land. The contract was signed with the reservation that it would be void should the governmental agencies fail to approve the site. There will also be further discussion of a Highway maintenance contract with the department of highways and a contract with the office of traffic safety of san Antonio College for a study recently completed of Bertram s traffic sign needs. The Council is expected to adopt the Revenue sharing budget which was discussed at a hearing during last month s meeting.
