McCandless and McCluskey Elected Burkburnett Commissioners

In a June 5 1967 special election Burkburnett voters chose Reid McCandless and Joe Ray McCluskey to join Eldon Morris on the seven member City Council. McCluskey won a coin flip to break a tie with Morris. McCandless will serve two years and McCluskey one. The council approved installing street lights on Westward Drive and West 5th 6th and 7th Streets and discussed use of City property by Future Farmers of America near the sewer station and other town needs.

Rodeo Dance At Legion Hall During Burkburnett 60th Anniversary

The American Legion hosts a dance after the Rodeo on Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17. Music by Tha Johnsons of Vernon. Admission is 3.00 per couple and 2.00 for a single. An open invitation extends to all to visit Legion Hall during the Rodeo and Burkburnett’s 60th anniversary.

Zimmerman Nominated For Local Postmaster

Acting Burkburnett postmaster since July 1964 W T Zimmerman has been named by President Johnson as a nominee for postmaster among four Texas nominations sent to the U S Senate. Former Wichita County Democratic chairman, Zimmerman was named acting postmaster after A H Lonofener retired. other nominees include James McMillan Kingsville Marie Toombs Maple and Nezie Duncan Willis.

Bowling League Holds Banquet in Boomtown Bowl

A banquet in the Bounty Room at Trade Winds honored the Mixed Doubles League of Boomtown Bowl. First place teams were Corkey Stevenson and Lore, R. C. Pogue and Ruth. second went to Luther Magee with Mary and Henry McDonnell with Ruby. third to Robbie Nelson, Pete Jeffers, Jo Derham, and Ike Dowdy. Bucmtown Bowl sponsored the top prize, with McDonnell Air Conditioner and Refrigeration and P&G Construction earning second and third respectively. All members received club trophies for their highest game.

Flag Day Message Emphasizes Pride in Nation

A June 14 flag day note urges citizens to fly the Stars and Stripes and express pride in the United States. It defends the country as the best in the world, cites devotion to the flag, heritage, and the motto one Nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all.

Burkburnett Opens Head Start With Sixty-Two Students

The Head Start program for pre school age children opened June 5 in Burkburnett enrolling 62 children. Director Overton Ray notes the summer program and lists teaching staff Violet Perry Ola Quadebaum Hazel Willis and Barbara Strickland.

Local Jaycees Attend President's Conference in San Angelo

Jaycee president Bill Mize and State Director Aderan Dunn attended the Local President's meeting in San Angelo Texas on June 24 with about 300 presidents and state officers. The meeting introduced new officers and duties and covered state projects including a drive to urge Texans to express support for service members in Vietnam.
