June 8 in Austin 750 Texas high school boys began the 28th American Legion Boys State at the University of Texas. From Burkburnett delegates Robert David Strayhorn Timothy Clay Hutto and Robert Ray Faulk were registered and assigned to the Longhorn or Pioneer party. Texas Electric Service Joins Nuclear Reactor Research Program

Texas Electric Service Company joins with Gulf General Atomic Inc and 20 investor owned utilities in a two year program to accelerate gas cooled breeder reactor development. Hulsey says the effort aims for high efficiency, low fuel cost and possible full scale plant by the early 1980s. Four Texas utilities participate and Texas Electric Service is also networked with the Texas Atomic Energy Research Foundation supporting UT Austin fusion experiments.
