Five contestants compete for Rodeo Queen at Boomtown Rodeo from June 13 to 15. Denise Corby, Becky Kennedy, Karen Landrum, Lienda Goins, and Petite Janey Wood each show riding and homemaking talents as they represent their families and towns. The winner will reign over the three day event.
Gene Hodge a Stephen F. Austin College forestry major works with Wichita Falls Parks and Rec. Alice Goodwin and daughter Maureen Pearson return from Scott and White Clinic in Temple after tests and meds avoid surgery. Several Burk residents visit families in Edmond Oklahoma, Blythe Arkansas, and Corpus Christi while others plan trips to Baton Rouge and Arkansas Missouri with updates on health and relocations.
Snyder Texas city manager George Patterson told nearly 80 chamber members at Town Hall luncheon how Snyder modernized from an outdated town. Henry Clark aided with slides showing new storefronts curved sidewalks trees and mercury vapor lighting. The nine month program aims to complete a bright evening scene.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile returns to Burkburnett on Wednesday June 12 at the Panks Community Room. Donors include Melvin Bailey of 610 Hazel Drive with a 4 gallon mark, two gallon givers Mag er Sales and Dee Sykes, and one gallon club members Ted Harris Carl Law Bob R Carter Fdon Morris. Donor 1 pint saves lives during summer travel and activities.
A letter from Levi Garrett encloses a check for another year of the Burk and News. He shares brief West Texas news from Electra Andrews Levelland and Denver City about Lenny Lyn Garrett's high school commencement and asks to pass greetings to Harry and Betty.
The Senior Citizens Club will meet at Town Hall for a covered dish luncheon on Thursday June 13 at 10 am with lunch served at noon. Members are urged to attend and bring covered dishes to share.
June 8 in Austin 750 Texas high school boys began the 28th American Legion Boys State at the University of Texas. From Burkburnett delegates Robert David Strayhorn Timothy Clay Hutto and Robert Ray Faulk were registered and assigned to the Longhorn or Pioneer party. Events include a Capitol visit and Governor’s Ball as part of the program.
The Registered Nurse Club will meet at 7 30 p m in the U S Air Force Hospital dining room Thursday June 13. Miss Karin Smith of Wichita General Hospital will speak on her Peace Corps work in Brazil. All registered nurses are invited to attend.
Citizens are asked not to park on Main Street from Avenue D to Avenue A near the railroad on Thursday June 13 from 12 noon until 6 30 p m. Cooperation helps parade safety and improves spectator viewing.
Texas Electric Service Company joins with Gulf General Atomic Inc and 20 investor owned utilities in a two year program to accelerate gas cooled breeder reactor development. Hulsey says the effort aims for high efficiency, low fuel cost and possible full scale plant by the early 1980s. Four Texas utilities participate and Texas Electric Service is also networked with the Texas Atomic Energy Research Foundation supporting UT Austin fusion experiments.
