Sherman voices Republican stance on labor rights praising the party record. He cites the Eight Hour law, Employers' Liability act, railroad worker safety measures, and the District of Columbia Child Labor law as proof of commitment to improve labor conditions. He endorses Taft's Cincinnati stance on injunctions.
A New York Sun excerpt reflects on William Jennings Bryan and James Kern aboard a worn ship of politics. Taft leads the race as Bryan, philosophical yet steadfast, hints at another bid after four years.
The Labor World defends Taft, calling him a true friend of labor and predicting that attacks by President Gompers will not alienate labor. It argues organized labor must remain united and opposing factions will mislead wage workers.
The dialogue mocks Taft and Bryan over corporate campaign contributions. Bryan accuses Taft of accepting such funds after the Denver convention, while defending a law passed by a Republican Congress six months earlier. The piece questions honesty and calls for candor from Bryan.
In Lancaster Precinct No 4 Fairview, Bryan’s precinct produced 35 Republican and 26 Democratic votes. By contrast last fall’s tally was 43 Republicans to 35 Democrats, a Democratic drift of over 1 percent. Bryan previously registered in Precinct A, Fifth Ward, where voting skewed toward Republicans. He moved to Bulmview hoping for a more even party split and a shift in Lancaster’s voting patterns.
