North Iowa school enrollment holds steady amid funding gaps
North Iowa Supt Cory Myer presented the district annual report at the August school board meeting detailing the 2015 16 year. He highlighted a successful summer food program serving about 60 70 breakfast and 100 125 lunch participants, funded by the USDA, with the district slightly ahead financially after expenses. Open enrollment into the district has risen, especially from Titonka area, while certified enrollment stabilized around 481. Budget figures showed 4 977 239 in revenue and 5 413 690 in expenses, with salaries at 3 281 165 and benefits at 1 003 853. Unspent budget declined toward 886 608 projected for FY17 due to lower state funding, fewer funds, and two small middle school classes limiting staff reductions. Myer urged support for the early retirement option and hoped for higher state funding next year, noting planned projects like roof windows siding work on the 64 building restrooms in the 22 building and a possible solar energy plan.
