Seed corn gathering and storage guidelines from an old farm bulletin
Seed corn should be gathered by late September with ears well ripened and of medium height on sturdy stalks. Ears must be hung to dry the same day, tied in strings of fifteen to twenty, and hung on wires in a dry ventilated attic or room. Open windows during dry warm days and avoid artificial heat, outdoors drying, or soaking in sacks. Select ears from the best field, and save more seed than expected need. Oil meal offered at 1.50 per hundred pounds.
