Creamery Pays Patrons $5500 in Dividends

Patrons of the Buffalo Center Cooperative Creamery received $5500 in extra checks before Christmas. The amount represents half of the 1946 season dividends, which totaled just over $11,000, marking the largest yearly dividend. Individual payments reached up to $75, based on milk or cream sales to the creamery in 1946.

Beekmann farm corn pickers honored by editor note

The editor apologizes for omitting four workers from a prior mention of corn picking at the Beekmann farm for Dick Beekmann and his son Arthur. Jim Murra Rete Murra Andrew Murra and Tony Geiken helped for about a day and a half, joining neighbors and friends in the harvest effort.

County PMA Elections Scheduled Across Townships

County PMA elections set for December 4 through December 8 at township centers town halls and schools with each township choosing a chairman vice chairman member and delegates. The county committee will convene Saturday December 9 to elect county officers for December 11.

Mother Dies Suddenly During Thanksgiving Visit

Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Clasen spent Thanksgiving with Dr. and Mrs. Henry Clasen in Cedar Falls. Mrs. Clasen, 79, fell ill after a Thanksgiving supper and died about 3 p.m. that day. Funeral services were held Monday at the First Presbyterian church in Cedar Falls as the Clasens returned to Buffalo Center Tuesday evening.

Mission Program Friday Night at Baptist Church

The anniversary program of the Ladies Mission Society will be observed Friday evening at the Baptist church. Rev. James Grugger of George Iowa will be the guest speaker. A mission offering will be received. The meeting begins at 7 30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Community Club To Meet Dec 5

The Woman's Community Club held its November meeting with National Book Week events at the Library. An $8.00 silver offering supported the Library while films were scarce, Deloris Donnelly sang, and poems were shared. The next meeting is Tuesday December 5 with Elmer Leibrand and others in charge.

Car Collision at Mill Road Junction Near Town

A Wednesday morning automobile crash at the junction of Mill Road and Highway No. 9 left two cars badly damaged but with no serious injuries. Fred Bestge, coming from the south, moved into the intersection and turned east, colliding with a light truck driven by Arlin Hauskins from the west.

Legion Auxiliary To Meet Dec 7 At City Hall

The American Legion Auxiliary will hold its regular business meeting at City Hall on Thursday evening December 7. A Christmas program will be presented by Isabel VanHoose and Bertha Gilbert. Larson Speaks to P. T. A. Members About School Work

About 150 parents and teachers met at the school house last Monday to hear Supt. Larson discuss the local school system. He urged better parent school understanding, more complete high school courses, a new grading system, and longer study periods. Outstanding students in music and athletics were recognized and a fine lunch served.

Draft Calls 3 Men For December

Three men from Winnebago County will be inducted in the armed services on December 12. Notices were mailed to Floyd E. Nash Lake Mills Jerome F. Formanek Manly and Merrill E. Albers Buffalo Center. They depart Forest City for Des Moines Induction Station then proceed to Fort Sheridan for reception. A call for ten men to Des Moines for armed forces physical examinations arrives with notices mailed to those selected for Dec 7th.

Soldier Home on Leave Visits Fort Bliss Parents

Ronald Abbas arrived Sunday from Fort Bliss Texas to visit his parents Mr and Mrs Elmier Abbas. He served with the U S Army in Korea from September 1947 to January 1949 and is now a tank driver in Battery A of the 59th AAA at Fort Bliss. He received a ten day leave to help his parents observe their 25th wedding anniversary on December 2.

Bison cagers lose three close to Titonka and more

Buffalo Center high school basketball opened at Rake on November 21 losing 35-31 in a tight contest. Bob Burger scored 10 points with Ronnie Fredericks and Glendon Hauskins also standout. The team then faced Algona in a 32-32 overtime thriller before a 87-34 Thompson win in a separate game. The freshman squad fell 24-12 to Rake and 28-16 to Thompson. The Bison host Britt on December 8 to start conference play.

Funeral Held For Herman G. Wessels In Iowa Community

Herman G. Wessels died at 79 after a life of farming and service. Funeral services were held at Schutter & Son Funeral Home and Reformed Church with Rev. H. F. Senne officiating. Interment was in Olena Mounder cemetery. Survived by wife Jennie and four sons, 13 grandchildren, a sister and a brother, with many relatives and friends attending from Iowa and nearby states. Wessels served on the local school board, as township trustee, and as a long-time Triple A Committee member. Born September 12, 1871, in Kamrar, he lived in Buffalo Center before retiring in 1941.
