Iowa Waives State Immunity and Farm Bureau Notes

The 1965 legislature passed a law waiving state sovereign immunity, making the state liable as private citizens. Rep Wes Graham, Ida Grove Republican, challenged the act during its passage. Iowa Farm Bureau President J Merrill Anderson reported two major farmer concerns at the 49th convention, including finances for secondary roads and opposition to government intervention in agriculture. He criticized actions aimed at limiting exports and manipulating prices, urged housewives to oppose government spending, and argued rising prices stem from federal policy, not farm costs. Farmers fear proposals to divert 9.8 million dollars from the secondary road program.
