Capítol donor gifts Bandag stock to Iowa University
Tarver A Muscatine businessman Roy Carver has donated 85,000 Bandag Inc stock shares valued at about 3.5 million to the University of Iowa. The gift supports projects from a community health model to student aid, professorships, and museum and historic building restorations. Bandag, founded in 1937, produces retread tires and grew to 36.4 million in revenue for the year ending Sept 30, 1971. Carver, who began with 100 dollars in 1938, notes rising wealth, owns six Mercedes and flies a Lear jet with Bandag retreads aboard.

Water pollution board splits 6 to dodge river discharge plan
A 6 to 0 vote by the water pollution commission rejected a proposal by two utilities to bury 6 foot pipes in the Mississippi River bed to release heated generator effluent at about 20 degrees above normal. Contracts Set for Activity Center in Clear Lake
On Monday November 9 bids were awarded for Phase I of the Activities Center for Handicap Village at Clear Lake. General contractor Anderson Construction Co. of Emmeteburg and Towa led with bids around 198000, mechanical KE, L. Secory & Sons of Clear Lake bid 75254, and electrical Packard Electric of Belmond bid 334732. The project funds come from federal Brant and Kinney-Lindstrom Foundation with architect Bob Johnson of Gjelten Schellberg and Associates. The center, offering craft areas classrooms an indoor mall with theater library and lunch area, should be ready late next summer for 60 to 160 residents.
