Two Asphyxiated in Des Moines Room Tragedy
Two young Des Moines men, Frank Merriam aged 25 and BD Campbell aged 22, were found dead from illuminating gas in a west Des Moines room at 1426 West Locust. The incident appears accidental as the gas jet was left partly open. The front room had windows on two sides but all were shut. Landlady Mrs. C Reynolds discovered them at 8 am and police were notified. Campbell hailed from Paton Iowa and worked for Carr Adams. Merriam was son of G D Merriam of Shannon City Iowa and employed by Brown Hurley Hardware. Both were bookkeepers and had no control over company funds.
