North Iowa students visited a 1920s style classroom during A Day at Grant 5. Buffalo Center Historical Society members led lessons including cursive writing with Ruth Winter demonstrating. The event occurred May 9 at the Grant 5 schoolhouse.
Winnebago County Conservation Board hosts a free canoeing event at Thorpe Park on Wednesday evening May 30 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lake Catherine boat ramp. Canoes life jackets and paddles provided with optional basic instruction and possible wait if all canoes are in use. Buffalo Center Historical Society led North Iowa fourth graders through eight 10 minute stations at Grant 5, exploring 1920s education. Students carried books on their heads, practiced cursive, and learned farm arithmetic, poetry, and genealogy as two former students shared memories.
