In Hamburg two men, J F Haldwin of the Farmer's Exchange bank and C Rees, a local capitalist, fought after an afternoon meeting over issues with their children. Haldwin was shot twice. one wound is serious but not fatal. Rees was released on bonds. Nearby, farm hand Curt Smith was killed by a lightning strike at Oskaloosa while tending his farm. debris and damage nearby included eggs and a damaged barn on Theodore Green’s property.
Mrs. Herman Ven Mebel of Neola was badly scalded while doing laundry. Water from a washing machine spilled over her arms and limbs as she filled the machine. Mr. Yair Mebel aided promptly and saved her from severe burns. She remained in critical condition but improved slightly. Self-reported.
