Court House News Briefs: Marriages, Estates, Accidents

Two marriage licenses issued by the Clerk of Courts in the past week. Administrators named for several estates with bonds filed. Three accidents reported with minor damages and no injuries. County records show 1,642 instruments since January and 481 fishing and hunting licenses issued in April, totaling $10,005. Real estate transfers filed include several between individuals and the State of Iowa. Continued on page 20.

Get Out The Vote Program In Winnebago County

A county wide Get Out The Vote effort aims to mobilize voters for the June Primary. Gubernatorial candidate William Beardsley will speak in Forest City on Tuesday evening May. The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation offers a $500 prize to the county board of education for the highest turnout among eligible voters.

Buffalo Center Red Cross Drive Totals $430.50

Citizens of Buffalo Center contributed $430.50 to a Red Cross fund drive. Local chairman J. Kapp thanks residents and lists donors with amounts including Ben Swahson $93.50 and Mrs Harold Elman $81.00, among others.

Sells Two Peacocks From LaPorte City Buyer

Ben Steinberg who raised peacocks for six years sold a pair to William Gill of LaPorte City last Monday for 60 dollars. A crate six feet long held the birds as their four foot tails draped. Steinberg, turning 79 on Tuesday, says peacocks need three years to reach laying stage and he now has two hens and a rooster remaining.

Mrs Ruby Sleper Heads Community Club

The Woman's Community Club held its annual 6:30 dinner and elected officers at City Hall Tuesday evening. A large crowd attended the last meeting of the season. Elected were president Mrs Ruby Sleper vice president Mrs William Beaving recording secretary Mrs John Dancan treasurer Mrs G Dolmage and corresponding secretary Mrs Edith Theile. Installations set for the first September meeting.

Baseball and Track Sites Announced For Local Teams

The sectional baseball and district track site announcements list Buffalo Center in the Titonka tournament with games on May 6 8 10 and 12. Buffalo Center faces St John s Bancroft at 2 00 pm Saturday but may miss due to Fort Dodge track. The Bison have 1 win 1 loss after 2 games. the wunners have 3 track meets with county success and strong showings at Clarion and Estherville. District qualifiers advance to the state meet. The team hopes for rain at 2 06 pm Saturday so they can still compete.

Soil Conservation To Hold Election This Summer

A Soil Conservation District commissioner will be elected for a six year term this summer. Current commissioners J. A. Livercn, Carl Gustafson, and D. H. Kraeze set plans at last Thursday’s meeting for a field day in the fourth week of June with a program on soil conservation. Nomination petitions must be filed with the secretary by June 1. Petitions available at the Soil Conservation Office or Farm Bureau Office.

Mrs Ted Fredericks Heads Band Mothers Group

Mrs Ted Fredericks was elected president of the Band Mothers at the final meeting held at the school house. New officers include Mrs A Rank as vice president Mrs R Morgan recording secretary and Mrs R Hill treasurer. Band plans include a December Decoration Day march and a June 22 Band Festival in Mason City.
