North Iowa car show raises funds for youth swimming

Buffalo Center hosts a July 28 car show during Crazy Daze to benefit North Iowa Youth Swimming. Johnson's Food Center donates all proceeds while Destination D.C. kids serve lunch. Registration is 5 dollars in advance or 10 at the gate. Proceeds fund lessons and pool passes for needy Local children.

Julie Larsen Larsen to retire after 38 years in FCS

North Iowa educator Julie Larsen, who began teaching in 1974 and has spent 38 years in Family Consumer Science, plans retirement to enjoy gardening, sewing, and time with family. She has advised FCCLA and will attend a National Conference in Orlando with student JT Roe.

City reviewing applicants for police chief

The City of Buffalo Center is interviewing five applicants for police chief this week. A committee including Mayor Troy Armstrong and Councilmen Chuck Silber and Pete Paulson, plus Police Chief Pat Conroy, planned to meet candidates on Tuesday. Conroy retires next month with his final patrol day set for July 14. The council will decide at a future meeting.

Buffalo Center will host the annual Bison Firecracker Days with events July 4 7 8 at Bison Field Lions Park and surrounding venues A 7 am race registration at 8 am medals for top finishers in seven age groups new Firecracker Parade marching at 10 am parade entries due by June 27 contact Maude Smith or Jamie Thomson Lions Park hosts free activities inflatables face painting petting zoo FFA train sand volleyball pedal pull and a concession stand Volunteers donations needed for the stand and activities Buckets include five pounds ground beef or two dozen bars Contact NICD at 562 2222 Music in the Park at Lions Park starts 2 pm featuring Windy Creek and other performers Free will offering supports Buffalo Center Historical Society funding from Diamond to Casino.

Water rates rise in Buffalo Center ordinance approved

Buffalo Center moves to raise water and sewer charges after first reading of Ordinance 62. Minimum bills stay at 8.40 for water and 7.08 for sewer. additional gallons cost 2.00 per thousand. Current tiered water and sewer rates would be replaced to fund maintenance and chemical costs. City Clerk Deb Jensvold notes the need to balance funds, with second reading set for July council meeting.

North Iowa school awarded 970000 for tornado safe room

North Iowa School District received a 970000 grant from Iowa HSEMD for a tornado safe room estimated at 85 percent of the project cost. Architects will prepare plans, a public hearing will seek input, and the board may approve construction and a potential community fitness center funded by SAVE dollars without a tax increase.
