Supreme Court Abolishes Drainage Assessments in Lat eral 8-3-11 Case
The Iowa Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that drainage assessments in Lateral 8 of Drainage District 3-11 are illegal and void. The decision followed a 1964 decree and involved landowners in Winnnebago and Kossuth counties who disputed 71.5 percent cost levies after a 1962 repair. The ruling enjoins the counties from collecting the disputed assessments and reflects the protracted litigation and hearings led by Judge John F. Stone.
