Hymn Legend Charles Wesley Dies After Long Life of Hymns

Charles Wesley son of the Methodist movement pioneer died after a long life during which he penned thousands of lines and 6500 hymns. His last days at City Road chapel in London and posthumous fame for Jesus Lover of My Soul are noted as critics finally concede the hymn’s enduring craft. The piece recalls John Wesley’s foreword urging care with his brother’s verses and cites Beecher’s praise for the hymn. Industrial ads for Farmers Trust Bank and local businesses appear in the same column.
