Sunday liquor sale bill passes Iowa Legislature
A bill to permit Sunday sale of beer and liquor between noon and 10 pm has cleared both Iowa houses and awaits Gov. Ray’s signature. It would allow sales only at establishments earning at least 50 percent of revenue from non liquor or beer business and requires local government approval before opening Sunday hours.
Grain Movement Remains Serious Cornbelt Problem
Iowa lawmakers clash over Regents funding as Senate rewrites House bill. Senate approves 244 million for 1973-75 operations, blocks resident tuition increases but allows nonresident hikes. Other measures cover faculty advancement, trucking limits, campaign finance disclosure, rail repair funding, and civil rights funding. Grain shipping capacity remains strained with 350 million bushels capacity and 50 million extra grain movement forecast. Senate coats and ties tradition ends the summer heat debate.
