Two dose vaccine for encephalomyelitis in horses and mules, given 7 to 14 days apart before July, can cut losses. Veterinarians should administer. remedies sold by peddlers are ineffective. Farmers should isolate ill animals, protect from insects, and use screened housing where possible. The disease, a virus spread by insects, has three stages from mild indisposition to paralysis and death. A veterinarian should be called at first signs to differentiate from similar nervous diseases.
