Early Settlers Visit Shell Rock Family Event

Two former Buffalo Center residents George Gilbert and Walter Gilbert with sister Nelle Grothaus visited Shell Rock to help their sister Belle observe her 92nd birthday. Walter traveled from near Missoula Montana, facing heavy snow at Mullen Pass on the journey. The brothers left the area around 1900 and have since retired from business. The piece also notes about one million American farmers sell milk and over 400,000 derive more than half their income from dairying.
