Public Meeting Friday On Municipal Plant

A public meeting will be held at the Buffalo Center school auditorium Friday evening, June, at 8:00 o clock to inform Buffalo Center residents about establishing a municipal light and power plant. Speakers include representatives from Lake Mills and Bancroft plants and the Omaha survey engineer who will discuss Municipal Power Plants and answer questions.

American Legion Meets Tonight in Winnebago

Winnebago Post No 21 of the American Legion meets at City Hall tonight June 7. Nominees for 1957 post officers will be presented. A $10 door prize requires the winner be present. Attending Legion's Boys State Ostermann Heads to Camp Dodge Iowa

Buffalo Center High School junior Robert Ostermann attends the American Legion Boys State at Camp Dodge Iowa with 700 other youths. He will study executive government, city county and state operations, hear Governor Hoegh and other leaders, and visit the State Capitol Office Building and Historical Building before returning home Sunday.

Berhow Easy Winner Over Koto In County Treasurer Primary

Leslie M. Berhow won the Republican primary for County Treasurer, defeating Dean Koto by about 1839 votes in 16 precincts. He carried Center Two with a strong county-wide margin near three to one, according to Tribune results.

Memorial Day Services Have Large Crowds

A large crowd gathered at the school auditorium for Memorial Day exercises under the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. Speakers included Rev. Lawrence Mathie of Bethlehem Lutheran and Rev. John D. Engels, with music by the Buffalo Center Band. A parade proceeded to the cemetery for a veterans’ remembrance, featuring 50 plus names, a poppy ritual, a three volley salute, and taps.

Sill Wins Republican Nomination for 3rd District Supervisor

Paul Sill of Thompson secures the Republican nomination for the 3rd District supervisor after a tight race against three Buffalo Center opponents, winning by 27 votes. Ralph Stenerson carried Buffalo, Grant and Lincoln townships with over 200 votes in Thompson, finishing second overall. Hofbauer will face Sill in the fall as the Democratic candidate from Buffalo Center.

Mexican Farm Hand Injured In North Town Dispute

Several Central American laborers working northwest of town were involved in an unfriendly argument that left one man with severe skull injuries. John Bosquez of Elmore Minnesota received hospital treatment for a couple of days at Dolmage Memorial last week.

Kids Fish Day Draws Hundreds From Buffalo Center

About 257 children aged 5 to 12 took part in Kids Fish Day Saturday at the town pool with 700 bull heads donated by Spirit Lake Conservation and 575 landed by the youngsters. Local families and officials assisted as prizes and ice cream were handed out, and a 12 year old incident prompted bystander caution as youngsters fished under supervision.

VFW Opens Hall to Boy Scouts in Kingsbury-Jurgens Post Meeting

Commander Martin Anderson led Kingsbury Jurgens Post 4824 at the VFW Clubhouse on Monday May 28. Ronald Oleson collected a $5 door prize after naming seven absent members.
