Plans for Ski Area Dropped at Pilot Knob Park
The Iowa Conservation Commission says plans to build a commercial ski area in Pilot Knob State Park near Forest City have been dropped after the promoters withdrawn. Spokesman David J. Butler of Mason City cited avoiding further controversy and in the park’s wilderness, naturalists warned against increased use. The plan would have added multiple runs and ski lifts to the glacial hill, which already hosts a trial skiing project with no tow allowed to the top.
