Wool Growers Asked to Submit Recommendations

Wool producers are urged to submit recommendations on the incentive price level for shorn wool for the 1965 marketing year. Harland E. Johnson ASCS chairman said recommendations are due by Monday June 8. The incentive price has been 62 cents per pound and may be continued next year. The 1965 marketing year will be the last under the National Wool Act of 1954, which aimed to sustain about 300 million pounds of shorn wool annually. U.S. production slipped from 265 million pounds in 1960 to 238 million in 1963 due to low lamb prices and other pressures.
