Memorial Day Parade Color Guard and Remarks at Buffalo Center

Buffalo Center Memorial Day observance featured a color guard led by Eddie Albers and Charles Schumann with Honor Guard Commander Harvey Hassebrock. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Robert Lounsberry spoke on patriotism and democracy as flags and banners passed by veterans and scouts.

Farewell concert for Rev. Wierson set for June 11

A musical evening titled Time of Farewell features Rev. Stan Wierson and the Children of the Light at the Buffalo Center school auditorium on Saturday June 11 at 7 30 p m. The program highlights gospel music and testimonies as Wierson prepares to leave the United Methodist Churches of Buffalo Center and Woden for a new role in Newton. The Sunday June 12 farewell sermon at worship concludes his tenure here. The event includes performers from Buffalo Center Britt Kanawha Rake and Davenport among others with an orchestra from Kanawha and Buffalo Center. Lisa Larson will not attend.

39th NI Band Festival Opens June 4

The NI Band Festival returns for a 39th year with events slated for June 4 as Volume Eight Six Number Seven of the newspaper for Thursday, June 2, 1977, notes a 10 page edition.

Buffalo Center will attend the 39th Annual North Iowa Band Festival in Mason City on Saturday June 4 where the High School Marching Band directed by Keith Peterson will perform with Miss Pamela Winter as North Iowa queen candidate. A parade opens at 10 00 a m featuring Storyland characters. The queen selection is set for East Park at 3 15 p m and the queen winner will be chosen from 40 candidates. Installation of Rev Floyd R Johnson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church occurs at 9 30 a m Sunday June 5 with Rev Warren Salveson assisting. The Anderson family from Buxton ND have moved into the parsonage at 217 4th Street NE.

Timely Mission Nursing Home Hosts Open House Sunday

Residents and area visitors are invited to an open house at Timely Mission Nursing Home on Sunday June 5. Guided tours will showcase the new 17 resident wing now totaling fifty beds. Open house hours are 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. with refreshments provided.

Brad Quame Returns to Lead Quame Plumbing

Brad Quame has moved back to Buffalo Center to join his father as a partner in Quame Plumbing & Heating. After graduating Buffalo Center High School in 1972 he studied at Jackson Vocational Area Technical School in 1975 and spent a year with Seiler Plumbing & Heating in Storm Lake before the June effective start of Quame & Son, keeping the firm's name.

Fourth Quarter Second Semester Honor Roll at Buffalo Center

Buffalo Center Community School announces honor roll for the fourth quarter and second semester with grades averaging 90 percent or above and no grade below 98. Blood pressure clinics reach Winnebago county communities

Winnebago County Public Health Nursing Service sponsored four blood pressure clinics in May, screening 523 people and referring 32 to doctors. Buffalo Center recorded 100 attendees with five referrals. Lake Mills 18 percent with 13 referrals. Leland 50 with 4. Scarville 50 with 2. Rake 54 with 1. Thompson 82 with seven referrals. Forest City hosted a separate Iowa Heart/Life Underwriters event on May 14 testing 285 people with about 10 percent referred. Nurses Emeline Johnson and Betty Anderson led the efforts across communities.

Lakota's Miss North Iowa Queen Selected

Lakota senior Miss Tada Poppe has been chosen to represent Lakota and its high school marching band in the Miss North Iowa queen contest at Mason City on Saturday June 4. The event caps the 39th Annual North Iowa Band Festival in East Park at 3 15 p m. Zada Poppe is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Adolph Poppe Jr.

Mrs. Neuman Retires After Twenty One Years of Teaching

Mrs. Jeanette Neuman ends a 21 year teaching career in Buffalo Center on May 23. Her work spanned upper elementary grade four with a district career beginning fall 1956 after stints in Belmond Glenwood and rural schools. She plans to stay in Buffalo Center, devote time to church and family.
