Bible schools begin next Monday morning at 8:30 at the Methodist, Reformed, Catholic, Lutheran and Congregational churches. Buses will follow regular schedules to bring children to and from homes. Sessions run 8:30 to 2:30 each day. Parents urged to send children for Bible training.
The Daily Vacation Bible School at the Baptist church began Monday with strong attendance and runs through next morning sessions. Beginners are taught by Mable Hartman and Loretta Broniewa, with other classes led by local teachers. The school closes with a picnic and demonstration program on Sunday evening, June 2, awarding top students.
People from Ackley Webster City Ames Mountain Lake Itonka Swea City and Minnesota attended the funeral of Willie Harms held Wednesday of last week. Relatives included Mr and Mrs Reilt Krull Mr Jenno Isebrand Mr and Mrs John DeWall Mr and Mrs Vile Berends Mr and Mrs Egbert Uss Fred and Bruno Stecker Mrs John Alberts and Florence and Mrs John Dorenbush.
District Court informs all interested that the will of Hinderikus Asmus, dated July 25, 1917, has been filed and opened. A hearing to prove the will is set for two o clock P.M. on June 27, 1938, at the Forest City Court House before the district court or clerk. DeVere Hirt, Clerk.
In District Court Woodbine? No. The notice reads that an instrument purporting to be the last will and testament of Willie Harris deceased, dated May 8 193? is filed and set for hearing June 27 1938 at two o clock PM at the Forest City court house. Interested parties may appear or show cause why the will should not be probated.
About 100 in morning and 150 in afternoon attended the Lake Mills achievement day with women from all counties except Linden taking part. Buffalo, Norway, and Forest townships rated high, Center and Buffalo showed strong project results, with exhibits on weaving and corn husk rope. The event featured a pageant, luncheon, guest speaker Mrs Ellsworth Richardson, and a first county memory music contest with 56 women in attendance.
A poem recalls a rose by the roadside whose bloom draws the narrator’s attention with perfume that compliments June. A brief moment ends when a bee in the rose causes a startled shout, interrupting the scene.
Mr and Mrs Galen Comstock and daughter join Mr and Mrs Orland Sparks of Blue Earth Minnesota and Mr and Mrs Merrill Sparks of Armstrong for a Sunday visit at the A Sparks home in a regional family engagement.
Week end guests in the Mr and Mrs Alvin Greif home were Attorney and Mrs Ray Emmett Dale Ralph and Cora of Des Moines Miss Esther Row and Mrs J T Row of Dallas Center Mr and Mrs Clifford Bettelson of Blue Earth Minnesota arrived Sunday to visit relatives Mr Bettelson returned home Monday but Mrs Bettelson and children will remain for a longer visit Mrs Etta Daum and daughter Arlene of Iowa Falls came Monday to visit friends and relatives until today when they will leave for Mason City to attend the graduation of Fred Doderer
A notes page item lists Miss Mariam Harms leaving Wednesday for Emmetsburg to visit the Joe Downey home. She is accompanied by Karen Dee Downey who has been visiting in the Harry Harms home for about a week. The column also covers several local social visits and family travels, including graduates from Hamilton School of Commerce and weekend guests in various households. Irvin Pross was struck by lightning last Friday and remained unconscious for hours but is recovering.
Mr and Mrs Frank Fredericks moved yesterday into the residence vacated by the Herschel Thompson family. Mr and Mrs Elmer Hanson of Eldora, Mr and Mrs John Hanson and son Jack and Mrs Henry Hanson and son Bobby of Iowa Falls, spent Sunday in the Christ Hanson home. Jack Hanson remained for an indefinite stay.
Mr and Mrs John Tegland of Minneapolis visited relatives and old friends here over the week end. The Teglands left Buffalo Center in 1905 and have followed the town through the Buffalo Center Tribune to stay connected. Mrs Hub Beyer and son Jimmie and Mrs G B Johnston motored to Alden on Tuesday morning where Mrs Johnston will stay with her daughter and family Mr and Mrs Steinmetz for an indefinite time. Beyer and son returned that evening.
Mr and Mrs Herschel Thompson and family relocated to a new home in Algona on Wednesday. The family was active in church circles the Faria Bureau and numerous community activities. The community extends its good wishes as they move.
Mr and Mrs Seibert Claassen and Marvin Claassen drove to Geneva Sunday to visit relatives and to Hampton to see Leonard Mitterer in hospital after an appendicitis operation. They returned Sunday evening with Mrs Mary Mitterer who will stay a couple weeks. Marvin stayed longer in Geneva. The Misses Charlotte Kiewiet and Helen Pink graduated from Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls Monday. Attendees from here included Mr and Mrs W F Kiewiet Rollin Gwendolyn Mrs J H Kiewiet and Mrs H A Kiewiet and daughter Myrna Kay and Lillian Kiewiet and Marlyn Jean and Arlene Gilbert and Mr and Mrs John Pink and Ruth Johnson.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 21 will hold its next regular meeting at city hall Monday evening June 6. All members are urged to attend as officers will be elected. Bring Poppy money. Mrs. Wm. Rhode and Mrs. Wm. Haselroth to serve.

The county 4-H girls Rally Day at Thompson gymnasium Friday marks the start of summer club activities. Afternoon focuses on business, music and picture memory contests with top scorers and perfect attendance awards. evening features folk games, living pictures, music and a procession of county officers installation. Dorothy Ostrander presides. Elsie Endreland and Eunice Nerdig assist.
The Federated Clubs of Winnebago County plan a June picnic at Thompson's town park starting at noon. Members and guests will enjoy a Bride's School program featuring talks, demonstrations and exhibits, with involvement from Thompson Study Club on local arrangements and 4 H participants among the guests.
The Memorial Day program here Monday was one of the finest ever presented in this community. Attendance was down from past years as many farmers worked in the fields, but performers at the park, school, and cemetery did a fine job.
The Tribune announces the purchase of a new Lino typesetting machine to improve readability and expand job work capabilities. Readers are invited to visit the forepart of the week to see the machine in operation.
Primary election will be held next Monday June 6 1938 to thin candidates for the November general election. A record vote is expected statewide and Buffalo township in the 3rd district faces a seven candidate supervisor race. Only 200 votes were cast two years ago in the township. Citizens are urged to mark an X opposite their favored candidate.
The Buffalo Center pavement work will open to the public next Saturday morning though surrounding residential streets remain under construction. Gravel is being dumped on streets needing black-top as the town completes the project, which will be a decided improvement.
A town baseball team was organized at a Tuesday evening meeting. The opener is set for Sunday, June 5, with Forest City as the visiting club. Managerial duties are assigned to J. J. Kopp, Geo. A. Carman, and Albert Fleming. Don Godferson will pitch, backed by Curly Kopp, Russell Peterson, Ben Gerdes, Albert Fleming, Andrew Olson, Grimes, Betels, Larson, Breckunitch, Loran Kopp, Harry Matson, and Geo. Carman.
The library adds six titles including Password to Larkspur Lane by Carolyn Keene and Northwest Passage by Kenneth Roberts. Readers may buy a summer library card for twenty five cents to borrow during June July and August. Hours: Wednesday 7 to 9 PM and Saturday 2 30 to 5 PM.
Mr. Ed Feldick admitted Sunday for a major operation. A son born to Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Jensvold Saturday evening. A daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Walter McCrary Saturday morning. Mrs. Albert Wirtjes of Lakota dismissed Friday after a minor operation. Norm Osland dismissed Tuesday after a major operation. Wilhelmina Mayland of Titonka dismissed Monday after a major operation. Nicholas Keller of Lakota dismissed Thursday after a major operation.
The Legion thanks those who took part in the Memorial Day program Monday. Donations were received from I. H. Femrite Ted Fredericks Leo Woodcock and Harmon Lundberg of Forest City.
