Missouri 0-205 Oats Yield Study in Buffalo Center Area

Vocational agriculture group reports Missouri 0-205 oats average over 60 bushels per acre on tested farms around Buffalo Center. Harry Shortenhaus led with 78 bu/acre on a 15 acre field. Dick Griken averaged 63.8 bu/acre north of Buffalo Center. Jack Davids 61 bu/acre on a 9 acre plot. Bennett Bruhns 55 bu/acre on 20 acres. Oats sold at cost by Future Farmers of America to promote better varieties, with test weight at least 134 pounds. Some color objections exist but yield advantages and tillering from one seed noted.

Soil Conservation District Plans August Meeting

The Winnebago Soil Conservation District will hold its annual meeting and field day during the week of August 23. Main item is the commissioner election with nominees J A Liverea and George Hartbauer of Buffalo Center. Legion Auxiliary To Meet August 5

The American Legion Auxiliary will hold a business meeting at City Hall on Thursday evening August 5. Hostesses Leona Haselroth and Leota Jordahl assist, Isabel Van House and Goldie Hill furnish the entertainment. Membership chairman Ada Wabhen asks all members to pay dues at this meeting.

State Legion Meet Aug. 14 at Des Moines

Winnebago Post No. 21 will send six members led by Post Commander Ray Murray to the State American Legion Convention in Des Moines August 2 to 4. National and local dignitaries headline, with a memorial service, parade, and election of 1955 officers on the program. Democratic convention attendance noted with speeches by Larry Plumber and others including Sen. Guy Gillette and Clyde Herring.
