Ponds Stocked With Fish Boost Iowa Farm Recreation

Iowa conservationists report rapid pond expansion with over 29 000 farm ponds statewide and more than 15 000 stocked with fish. Kermit Bjorne cites that wildlife areas now cover nearly 58 000 acres, with hedgerow planting totaling about 14 miles per district, underscoring farms as key wildlife and recreation resources.

Legion Auxiliary Names Committees and Officers

American Legion Auxiliary members gathered at Mrs. Amy Schoon’s home with Mrs. S. C. Claassen and Mrs. John Ennen assisting. The rehabilitation chair reported sending carpet rags and used nylon stockings to Independence and Cherokee. A pair of shoes was sent to our assigned child by the child welfare chair. New officers for the coming year were installed by County President Mrs. Leona Haselroth. Mrs. Rose Schleifer led the Back to God program with Psalm 48 12-13 and Viola Murray read a poem. Rank Couple Set to Leave for Seattle Visit

Mr and Mrs Anton Rank will depart Monday for Seattle Washington to spend several weeks at the home of their daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Glenn Stilwell. Their two granddaughters Yvonne Kilgore and Carolyn Gilde will accompany them.

Local Socials Note Lena Asmus Checkup and Hospital Visit

Miss Lena Asmus left last Friday for a checkup and medication at St Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City. Sunday, Mrs Leatha Matson and Nola visited Winnebago Minnesota for dinner at Harm and Mrs Van Hoyer's home. Afternoon visitors included Mr and Mrs William Betels and family. That evening they visited Mrs John VanHovel of Mankato who is at Immanuel Hospital.

Teachers Return From Western Trip

John Welden and Jim Rule, Buffalo Center teachers, returned July 8 after a June 21 trip through western states. They visited Denver Salt Lake City Reno San Francisco Los Angeles Las Vegas Grand Canyon and other sites. Rule stays as vocational agriculture instructor while Welden moves to Iowa Falls next month for a new school position.

Cedar Rapids Family Tours World Fair and Northwest Sights

Mrs. Josephine Murray and family from Cedar Rapids embarked July 1 for a sightseeing trip to the World’s Fair in Seattle after visiting Custer’s Battlefield and Glacier Park in Montana. They toured five World’s Fair areas, the Food Circus, and the Space Needle, noting long entry lines and a 30 foot high fruitcake. They visited Coleville, California, before returning home July 4. Kathy Teig and Mrs. Robert Edwards plan Missouri Ozark trips, returning next Sunday.
